Namchi, March 10: On the occasion of National Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) Awareness Day, the Red Ribbon Club of Sikkim Government College, Namchi organized a diabetes screening and awareness programme at the college Medical Room to emphasize the importance of early detection and prevention of diabetes.

The programme was conducted with the support of the College Nurse, Mrs. Aruna Sharma, who carried out blood sugar screening for participating faculty members and students. The initiative witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from members of the college community.

During the programme, participants were also sensitized about gestational diabetes, its possible health risks, and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Information on balanced diet, regular physical activity, and the need for periodic health check-ups was shared to encourage preventive health practices.

Although no expecting mothers were present during the programme, the awareness session successfully highlighted the significance of monitoring blood sugar levels and adopting healthy habits to prevent diabetes.

The initiative by the Red Ribbon Club effectively promoted health awareness and preventive care within the campus, encouraging students and staff to remain mindful of their health and overall well-being.
